I work in information security a consultant, but that is not the purpose of this site. When not playing with computers I enjoy travelling and taking photos.

I first took an interest in photography at a young age, viewing all the fascinating and exotic photos my grandparents would take on their travels around the world. I owned a Polaroid and enjoyed using compact film cameras - just taking photos of random things around the house and then realising I'd used up all the film.

My foray in to attempting 'serious' amateur photography began in 2009, when I purchased a Canon EOS 500D with the stock 18-55mm lens and a Tamron 70-300mm to go with it. I decided to take photos on 'manual' as often as possible until I was confident I knew what I was doing (and I'd recommend anyone getting in to photography does the same!). To be honest at the time I did it because I wanted to look I knew what I was doing as much as learn.

Since that time I have gone through multiple bodies, lenses, tripods, filters, flash units and so on in that never ending upgrade cycle that catches so many of us.

My current primary camera equipment is as follows:

  • Canon EOS 5D MKIV
  • Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II (general walkabout)
  • Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II (telephoto)
  • Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro
  • Always carrying ND filters

I also have a few primes and other zoom lenses, but they are generally superseded by the above for most circumstances. Canon EOS 7D is my backup - This was my primary body for so long that I just can't let it go. What a camera it was. Of course, other accessories I have include things such as flash guns, tripods, lighting rigs and so on.
