I work in information security, but that is not the purpose of this site. When not playing with computers I enjoy travelling and taking photos.
I first took an interest in photography at a young age, viewing all the fascinating and exotic photos my grandparents would take on their travels around the world. I owned a Polaroid and enjoyed using compact film cameras - just taking photos of random things around the house and then realising I'd used up all the film.
My foray in to attempting 'serious' amateur photography began in 2009, when I purchased a Canon EOS 500D with the stock 18-55mm lens and a Tamron 70-300mm to go with it. I decided to take photos on 'manual' as often as possible until I was confident I knew what I was doing (and I'd recommend anyone getting in to photography does the same!).
I don't like the idea of being shoehorned into one style - as my photography probably shows. This is a hobby for me and I enjoy experimenting and learning new techniques. My happy places are generally landscape and architecture, or dabbling in close-ups of random things that are often unrecognisable to judges in competitions!
Photos on this site are primarily taken on a Canon 7D, 5D MKIV or R5 MKII.
My current primary camera equipment is as follows for anyone interested:
- Canon EOS R5 MKII
- Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II (general walkabout)
- Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II (telephoto)
- Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS Macro
- Various filters
I also have a few primes and other zoom lenses, but they are generally superseded by the above for most circumstances. Of course, other accessories abound, but my biggest recommendation is a battery powered adjustable kelvin LED lamp.
